Major fire in scrapyard near Thanh Trì Bridge, Hà Nội

HÀ NỘI — A major fire broke out at a  二,000sq.m scrapyard near Thanh Trì Bridge in Hà Nội this afternoon, with billowing columns of black smoke visible over the city’s skyline.

The yard, belonging to Sơn Thanh company specialising in recycling and producing plastic goods, is a few hundred metres away from the nearest residential area in Hoàng Mai District.

The fire was largely brought under control after three fire trucks and dozens of firefighters were deployed to the site.

There are no reports of any casualties.

The cause is under investigation.

Many curious drivers travelling on Thanh Trì Bridge stopped to watch the fire, leading to a temporary traffic jam on the bridge. — VNS
